 Preparing for the End of the COVID-19 Public Health Emergency
The Federal PHE currently extends through later this year. While we do not know when the PHE will end, NC Medicaid wants to help beneficiaries, providers and community stakeholders understand any potential impacts and steps they can take to be ready. NC Medicaid has set up a resource center for beneficiaries, providers, Local DSS and community partners to assist in navigation. Through this change.
Additionally, there is an NC Medicaid End of COVID-19 PHE Toolkit available for use. This page also includes downloadable communication tools for use.

 NCDave Deadline September 1, 2022
North Carolina is making the switch to electronic death certification using the NCDAVE platform. Beginning September 1, 2022, death certificates must be filed electronically with the Office of Vital Records via the North Carolina Database Application for Vital Events (NCDAVE) system. Penalties may be assessed after this date.
Registration is simple. The North Carolina Division of Public Health Office of Vital Records has a secure, web-based statewide system for electronic death certificates.  Make the Switch! CVMS to NCIR
DHHS is encouraging all providers to begin transitioning from CVMS to NCIR. Switching systems before the start of the flu season cuts your workload in half since you will only have to document in one system vs. two. If you are currently using CVMS and plan to switch to NCIR, view the roadmap on the best way to transition.  Final Performance Feedback to be Released Late August
Final performance feedback, including your 2021 final score and associated 2023 Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) payment adjustment, will be available later this month.  NC HealthConnex Update
The NC HIEA recently communicated that the State Legislature temporarily suspended enforcement provision in the Statewide Health Information Exchange Act. Here are the highlights:
- The January 1, 2023, deadline remains in place.
- The statutory provision that would prevent “unconnected” providers and entities from receiving state funds for treating Medicaid recipients and State Health Plan members is suspended as a matter of law. Providers – even those not yet connected to NC HealthConnex – may continue to see state-funded patients without fear that the state will enforce the “condition of receiving state funds” provision of the Statewide Health Information Exchange Act at this time.
- It is imperative that providers, health care organizations, pharmacies and others subject to the Statewide Health Information Exchange Act take immediate steps to connect to NC HealthConnex.

Tailored Care Management: Updates You Need to Know
- NC Medicaid Managed Care Health Plan Comparison
With the addition of the Tailored Care plans coming December 1st, 2022, NC Medicaid has developed a comparison chart to help keep practices up-to-date and beneficiaries aware of their options. Please take a moment to review and download the full comparison chart.
- Enhanced Medical Home Payments for Advanced Medical Homes Serving Members Eligible for Tailored Care Management
Effective Dec. 1, 2022, through June 30, 2023, Advanced Medical Homes (AMHs) 1, 2 and 3 that are serving as the assigned primary care provider for NC Medicaid beneficiaries eligible for Tailored Care Management will receive an enhanced medical home payment of $20 per member per month. - Pharmacy Point of Sale Process at Tailored Plan Launch
Tailored Plans will be temporarily managed by NCTracks when Tailored Plans launch on December 1st, 2022, through March 31, 2023. Beginning on April 1, 2023, these claims will be managed by the Tailored Plans. For specifics regarding the upcoming launch related to Pharmacy Points of Sale claims, visit the NCDHHS Blog.

 September is National Cholesterol Education Month
National Cholesterol Education Month seeks to inform the public about the dangers of high cholesterol and its connection with the leading cause of death around the globe, heart disease. High cholesterol is one of the most common and commonly misunderstood health risks in America. It can be caused by an unhealthy diet and exacerbated by smoking and a lack of exercise and since it is symptomless it can be hard to diagnose. It is a serious condition that affects nearly 102 million Americans over the age of 20.
