Charlotte Area Health Education Center (AHEC) changed its name to be inclusive of the communities served within our eight-county region. Our new name, South Piedmont Area Health Education
Center (AHEC), is inspired by our physical location within the Piedmont area of North Carolina.
Our eight-county region is located in the southern part of the Piedmont region in North Carolina.
Our offices are in Charlotte from where we serve Anson, Cabarrus, Cleveland, Gaston,
Mecklenburg, Lincoln, Stanly, and Union counties. Our new name better reflects the geographic region we have served for over 50 years.
As we continue our mission-based work as South Piedmont AHEC, it is our privilege to provide and support the educational activities and services focusing on rural communities and those with
minimal access to resources. We take pleasure in working with our many partners in the
communities that encompass the eight counties served, and meeting their needs with educational activities, support services and vital collaboration.
Our new name aligns with the naming practices used by other NC AHEC regional centers.
South Piedmont AHEC will continue being an integral part of our community working to recruit, train, and retain the workforce needed to create a healthy North Carolina.
We are excited to be South Piedmont AHEC!
