Part 2 Information
Part two of substance use screening and treatment will build upon the evidence-based treatments discussed in part one. With an overview of the stages of change provided, the learner will understand the relationship between the patient’s stage of change and the ideal treatment stage. The session concludes with a case example that will illustrate the importance of understand and matching the stage of change with the treatment provided.
Part 1 Information
Part one of substance use screening and treatment will take learners through an exploration of both screening instruments for substance use, as well as a primer on evidence-based treatment for substance use. Instruments discussed will address screening for alcohol, illicit drugs as well as tobacco. A variety of therapies and treatments will also be discussed from complementary therapies to evidence-based treatment for individual treatment. For example, learners will be exposed to the application of cognitive-behavioral therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, and the application of mindfulness based relapse prevention in the treatment of substance use.
