This program will acquaint the learner with legal issues related to documentation in the practice of nursing. An overview of nursing law regarding practice and legal requirements of nursing documentation methods will be comprehensively addressed. Case studies of actual litigation containing examples of legally defensible documentation and legally indefensible documentation will be carefully examined.

Participants will be able to discuss key components and potential legal pitfalls of nursing documentation.
About the Speaker
Pam Collins, MSN, CMSRN, RN-BC
Pam has more than 35 years of varied nursing experience. She has worked as a staff/charge nurse for medical-surgical and pediatric units. Her experience also includes nurse management, nursing administration, nursing education and consulting. While Pam currently works as an independent consultant, she maintains her skills by working as a clinical educator for medical-surgical and specialty surgery at an acute care facility in Charlotte, NC. Pam is dually certified in medical-surgical nursing from the Academy of Medical-Surgical Nurses and the American Nurses Credentialing Center. Additionally, she has partnered with various nursing schools to assist nursing students in their preparation for the NCLEX Exam.
Pam speaks nationally on clinical and legal topics for the healthcare professional. Her passion is evidenced by her energy, presentation style and ability to engage the audience. She was awarded the 2013 South Carolina Educator of the Year Award by the South Carolina AHEC Consortium and considers it a privilege to share her expertise.
