The main goal of this activity is to provide practicing pathologists and pathology trainees with a review of molecular and cytogenetic tests that are helpful in surgical pathology, hematopathology, and cytopathology. The keynote speaker is William K. Funkhouser, MD, PhD, from the University of North Carolina, who will present the 17th annual Walter R. Benson Lecture titled Past-Present-Future Molecular Surgical Pathology. Dr. Funkhouser is a nationally-recognized surgical pathologist with a particular interest and expertise in molecular surgical pathology. Additional topics will include overviews and updates of genomic, proteomic and cytogenetic testing; and the current role of this testing in diagnostic and pharmacogenomic evaluation of hematologic, gastrointestinal, genitourinary, gynecologic, breast, thyroid, soft tissue, skin and brain neoplasms. Ample time will be provided for discussion and personal interaction between the attendees and speakers.
