Spontaneous coronary artery dissection (SCAD) has become an increasingly recognized cause of myocardial infarction, particularly in young women. The overall prevalence of SCAD, optimal diagnostic strategies, treatment modalities, and long-term prognosis are unclear.
The goal of this conference is to present the latest research on SCAD, review national and international consensus statements on the care of patients with SCAD, present diagnostic dilemmas with discussion about how to work through them, and serve as a jumping board for developing new research ideas and collaborations amongst SCAD researchers.
Nationally recognized thought leaders will discuss topics that range from the epidemiology, diagnosis, and acute and chronic management of patients with SCAD to discussion of the potential predisposing conditions and underlying diseases in patients with SCAD. Importantly, a multidisciplinary approach to patient care will be discussed with talks on mental health, reproductive health, exercise and physical activity, and the importance of finding community and support after a SCAD event.
At the conclusion of this activity, the learner should be able to recognize SCAD as an important cause of myocardial infarction, summarize the advantages and disadvantages of imaging modalities available to diagnose SCAD, and have a better understanding of the acute and chronic management of patients after SCAD
