Registered Nurses, inactive Registered Nurses

Description

Considering updating your RN skills to return to practice or re-activating your nursing license? The NC AHEC RN Refresher Program is designed for RNs with an inactive license greater than 5 years. It is also available to RNs with an active license who want to update their knowledge and skills. The program consists of an online theory component and a clinical practicum. The theory component has 24 online modules which review adult nursing concepts. The modules are offered by UNC-Chapel Hill School of Nursing and UNC-Chapel Hill Digital Lifelong Learning. The clinical component is 140 hours of precepted clinical experience and is coordinated by Charlotte AHEC. Enrollment is ongoing.

Costs of the program:
Administrative fee (paid to the regional AHEC): $125
Theory Course (paid to UNC-CH Digital and Lifelong Learning*): $1000
Clinical Practicum fee (paid to the AHEC where the Clinical Practicum is administered): $250

Objectives

  • Utilize principles of contemporary nursing, evidence-based practice and technology when providing patient care.
  • Function within the legal and ethical aspects of nursing using knowledge of the RN scope of practice.
  • Provide effective nursing care utilizing the institution’s care delivery model.
  • Use the Nursing Process to plan, implement and evaluate individualized patient care.
  • Integrate knowledge of anatomy and physiology, common diagnostic studies and pathophysiology of common disorders when providing patient care.
  • Use knowledge of nursing implications when administering medications, maintaining fluid balance and providing nursing care.
  • Use quality and safety principles to communicate, manage, and create a culture of safety in the workplace.
  • Incorporate patient care needs, consider culture and safety when caring for patients including a dignified death.
