This comprehensive course on UPPER LIMB and LOWER LIMB amputation care and rehabilitation is designed to equip rehabilitation professionals with the knowledge and skills necessary to provide optimal care and support to individuals undergoing amputation. Amputation is a life-altering event that requires multidisciplinary care and a holistic approach to rehabilitation. This course will cover various aspects of amputation, including post-operative care, pain management, prosthetic management, physical and occupational therapy interventions, psychological support, and community reintegration.

Through a combination of lectures, demonstrations, handouts, and hands-on workshops, participants will develop practical skills in amputation care and rehabilitation. By the end of the course, participants will be equipped to provide comprehensive, patient-centered care to individuals with limb loss, promoting optimal outcomes and quality of life.

NCBPTE Contact Hours
South Piedmont AHEC, as part of the NC AHEC system, is an approved provider by the North Carolina Board of Physical Therapy Examiners with regard to activities directly related to physical therapy for continued competence.

Occupational Therapy
As of July 1, 2018, the NCBOT no longer accepts applications for pre-approval of CCAs. OT practitioners need to make sure they are completing activities that comply with Section .0800 of the NCBOT Rules.

Objectives

  • Explain theories for and demonstrate interventions to address phantom limb pain.
  • Demonstrate understanding and ability to appropriately select and progress therapeutic interventions pre and post prostheses for the limb loss population.
  • Compare and contrast prosthetic componentry across the spectrum of K-levels.
  • Demonstrate understanding and management of skin integrity and wounds as a part of the interdisciplinary team.
  • Define social determinants of health and their impact on individual health.
