Description

This program will provide the learner with neurological assessment skills as well as the ability to plan, intervene in and evaluate the care of the patient with chronic neurological conditions. Topics will include management of multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease, Stroke/TIA, ALS, Guillain-Barré Syndrome, and others.

This program is being offered in cooperation with UNC Chapel Hill School of Nursing.

Topics will include neuro anatomy, intracranial pressure management, traumatic brain injury, and other acute conditions will be discussed with special attention to updated treatments and future trends.

Objectives

  • Review cranial anatomy, cerebral circulation, and the general organization of the brain.
  • Apply the elements of the nursing process to the care of the patient with chronic neurological conditions.
  • Identify signs and symptoms associated with stroke and other common chronic neurological conditions.
  • Interpret the epidemiology and management of stroke and TIA.
