As the digital landscape continues to evolve, its impact on adolescent health becomes increasingly evident. The need for innovative programs that positively engage teens within this changing environment is a growing priority for professionals working with youth. The Big Picture is a groundbreaking digital outreach and health education initiative designed by teens, for teens. Through a series of compelling, teen-led video vignettes, participants will gain valuable insights into the adolescent experience.
Crafted by high school students from Charlotte, NC in collaboration with Teen Health Connection, The Big Picture places the voices of teens front and center, addressing the most pressing health challenges they face today. Grounded in data from sources such as the CDC’s Youth Risk Behavior Survey, these vignettes offer relevant and impactful content that resonates with both adolescents and those who serve them.
This interactive discussion will explore adolescent anxiety from both a teen and caregiver perspective. Speakers will explore the signs, symptoms, causes, and effects of anxiety among teens, parents, and transition-aged youth, and will discuss the unique impacts of caregiver anxiety. The session will examine differences in the experience of anxiety among adolescent subpopulations, including how anxiety may manifest differently based on factors such as gender, age, and life experiences.
The session will introduce participants to The Big Picture as a health education tool, using the videos to explore anxiety and adolescent development from a teen perspective. The Big Picture is a program designed to encourage positive health choices and provide resources for teens and parents. Attendees will have access to the video content to use in their own educational efforts with teens and families after the event. Participants will leave with the latest information on adolescent behavioral health trends, practical strategies for supporting today’s teens’ behavioral health, and tools to ignite conversations with young people on key health topics.
The Big Picture is more than just an educational tool—it is a powerful testament to the importance of youth-driven perspectives in shaping the future of adolescent health. As today’s digitally native teens face the timeless and analog challenges of adolescence, The Big Picture uniquely empowers parents, professionals, and teens to engage in discussions that otherwise seem out of reach. Join us as we tap into the capacity of the digital landscape and harness the power of media to do good.
