- With the ever-changing landscape of the healthcare industry, medical professionals are continuously looking for ways to support healthier outcomes for their patients and to increase patient satisfaction with their hospital experience. According to a recent AHA survey, Reiki is now one of the top three complementary inpatient therapies in U.S. hospitals.
When Reiki is offered as a complementary therapy in Hospitals, Cancer Centers, Hospice and VA Programs, it is found to provide benefits for patients of all ages - infants to seniors - as well as for Staff and Family members.
These benefits include: reduced stress, anxiety, and pain; increased feelings of relaxation, comfort, and well-being, faster healing and better sleep. Reiki treatments have also been shown to reduce or prevent side effects from chemotherapy.
In this session, attendees will learn what Reiki is and how a treatment is given in the hospital or other healthcare settings. We will explain how Reiki assists in awakening the healer within.
We will include a brief overview of successful Reiki Programs across the country.
In addition to watching a demonstration of how a Reiki treatment is given, the attendees will also experience a Reiki Infused Guided Imagery Session.
We will discuss the many benefits provided by a Reiki treatment and share examples of patients’ experiences.
Lastly we will explain how Reiki assists in awakening the healer within.

- Presentation will discuss the importance of an individualized approach to healthcare in the future. Modern healthcare does not create health. Most chronic disease is preventable with lifestyle interventions such as diet, exercise and stress reduction. A personalized approach which considers the impact of nutrition and environment on the expression of individual genetic makeup will be valuable to future health care providers. Integrative and Functional Medicine will be a the forefront of this movement.

- Description
- This lecture will introduce Alexander technique (AT) as a tool for patient self-management enhancing patient ability to be active, skilled partners in their own care and recovery. In particular, following a challenging diagnosis which may trigger initial feelings of despair and discouragement, when a patient is able to feel hope that they can gain a level of control over their physiology and that they can have a positive impact on their own health and healing, they are more able to move forward with all aspects and levels of their care program. AT delivers a skilled patient to their interdisciplinary care team and makes that patient an active, generative player on that team. AT continuing ed for allied health professionals offers insights into this approach and in how to cue and support patients' orientation after they have learned these AT skills.
