Nurses working in ambulatory care, clinic, pediatric office, or school health settings.

Description

This program is being offered in cooperation with UNC Chapel Hill School of Nursing

This program provides the participants a guide for assessment of pediatric rashes. Common red flags related to rashes are presented. Evidence based interventions for common pediatric rashes are presented. The presentation also outlines times when patients with rashes must be referred for further evaluation and treatment.

Learning Outcome:
Participants will be able to gain knowledge of using proper assessment for identifying common rashes in children and rashes need further assessment by health care providers or dermatologists.

CE Information:
3.0 Nursing Contact Hours will be awarded to the participants who attend 90% of the course.
The Charlotte Area Health Education Center is approved as a provider of nursing continuing professional development by the North Carolina Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

Objectives

  • Review common dermatologic terminology.
  • Review signs and symptoms of common pediatric dermatologic illnesses seen in primary care including dermatitis, genetic, autoimmune, and keratin disorders, and infectious skin lesions
  • Discuss treatment and follow up and when to refer.
  • Review key assessments that lead to the diagnosis of common rashes in children.
  • Discuss common red flags noted when assessing patients with common pediatric rashes.
  • Identify when patient with rashes need further assessments by healthcare providers or Dermatology.
